Does the Central Virginia Rotary Club Offer Special Programs for People with Disabilities?

Our Central Virginia Rotary Club is devoted to making a positive impact in our community. We award college scholarships every year to support vocational success and help high school students with funding for Rotary-sponsored camps or schools. Being a part of our club is an enjoyable experience that connects each member to a network of driven people, which can improve their professional life. But, at its core, it's about building a better world.

RICHMOND, Virginia is home to two other Rotary clubs, as well as clubs in Louisa, Fluvanna and other nearby locations. Rotary action groups bring together Rotary members, family members, program participants and alumni who share their expertise in certain fields by collaborating with clubs and districts on projects. Our club has been around since 1917, making it one of the oldest among the 46,000 clubs that are now active around the world. We have been involved in many projects to benefit our community.

We have rung the Salvation Army bells, cleaned up the Rivanna River between Darden Towe and Riverview parks, and joined other local Rotary clubs to set up benches, plant shrubs and carry out other projects in McIntire Park. Like Rotary clubs, Rotaract and Interact clubs offer their members the opportunity to make friends, develop leadership skills, and create positive change. We have also raised funds for the Rotary International Annual Fund, the polio eradication program, donated shelter boxes for victims of disasters, and helped teams of doctors traveling to India to treat children surgically. We even participated in Rotary International's WASH grant to provide access to drinking water and sanitation to a rural school in Guangaje (Ecuador).

Potential members are sponsored by a current club member and approved by the board of directors and club members. From Virginia to Africa: In collaboration with local Rotary clubs and UVA Engineering, our team participates in drinking water and sanitation projects in Africa led by Rotarians and representatives of the University of Virginia. Rotary clubs also welcome Rotaractors, Rotary Peace Fellows, and other members of the Rotary family who qualify for membership. There are more than 34,000 Rotary clubs around the world that are open to people of all cultures and ethnicities; they are not affiliated with any political or religious organization.
